One of my favorites…

“Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence and fulfills the duty to express the results of his thoughts in clear form.”

Dead Malls

Welcome to my newest obsession, dead malls.  How did I become interested in dead malls, one may ask.  Well, there is a rather large mall in my area and there is a rather large portion of that mall that is completely empty.  I’ve always been fascinated by this huge, empty retail space.  I became so interested that I eventually emailed the parent company of the mall and inquired as to their plans for the insanely huge space.  They responded, but were very vague.  Sometime last year or late 2006 they filled parts of the empty space with Steve and Barry’s and TJ Maxx.  Steve and Barry’s is now going out of business, so that space will be empty again.  There is still a massive part of the mall completely empty, rotting and closed off.  I am baffled by this, I can’t even remember what store occupied this space.  It’s difficult for me to wrap my mind around how they allow a huge space like that to just sit.  Dark and empty and unused.  Sometime last week I was browing MSNBC and came across this article: Is the Mall Dead?  While the article isn’t exactly what I was going for, it lead me to DeadMalls.com, a sort of database/blog of “dead malls” across the country.  DeadMalls.com was interesting, I enjoyed realizing other people were experiencing the same thing I was.  How could these retail giants just die?  DeadMalls.com then lead me to LabelScar.com, a more professional, better kept blog about dead malls.  Obviously, there are many people out there interested in dead malls.  I know this is odd…and may eventually pass, but for now I am enjoying looking at all the dead/dying malls and wondering what went wrong and just seeing what America has become.  I hope you’ll check out the sites, they’re quite interesting!

Manic Monday

I officially hate my job. It has become increasingly stressful and has reached the point of impossible. There is not enough of me to go around. This was me today:

Do you believe people are basically good?

No, I do not. I want to, but I just can’t. People are inherently bad…they do bad, underhanded things. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t believe that all people are bad, just a vast majority. There are truly some amazing people among us, angels, if you will. There are also some truly evil people. Life is a very interesting mixed bag.

If you could change the custom of shaking hands, what would you replace it with?

The fist bump? I have no idea. I think too much emphasis is placed on the handshake, though.

What is something that you enjoy that is a chore for most other people?

I don’t enjoy any chores! I seriously can’t think of a thing. I am lazy by nature.

For the first time, the weekly Democratic address has been released as a web video. It will also continue to air on the radio.

President-elect Obama plans to to publish these weekly updates through the Transition and then from the White House.

Today’s address from the President-elect concerns the current economic crisis.

To say the least…

Jennifer Aniston…you look fucking fabulous on the cover of Vogue.  You have a body every woman dreams of achieving. You are seeing a talented and gorgeous man that is almost ten years your junior.  Wow…I think it’s pretty clear you won.

The actual quote (she’s referring to Angelina talking about Mr. And Mrs. Smith): “There was stuff printed there that was definitely from a time when I was unaware that it was happening. I felt those details were a little inappropriate to discuss. That stuff about how she couldn’t wait to get to work every day? That was really uncool.”

Thank you for finally calling that bitch Angelina Jolie out for committing crimes against her fellow females.  Note to Angelina: You make us all look bad when you sleep with married men and collect children.  Just go away now. Thanks.

Love

Where did we go wrong?  We elect our first African American President, an intelligent and inspiring man to be our leader, but we deny people the right to love, the right to happiness?  Two gay people getting married - vowing to love one another for eternity as we know it, vowing to be faithul and true to one another - does not hurt anyone.  It does not negate “traditional” marrriage (supposedly between a man and a woman), it makes it even better.  The divorce rate is skyrocketing in this country and there is a huge group of people simply asking to even have the right to try…ugh.  I don’t even have the words to express how disappointed I am in Prop 8 passing in California and the fact that the rest of the country is hoplessly against gay marriage.  Please watch this Special Comment by Keith Olbermann.  He sums up this situation perfectly.

Manic Monday

Ahh, the first Monday after we elected Barack Obama as our next president! I am so proud of this great country and can’t wait to see what wonderful changes President-Elect Obama has in store for us.  Here’s to many more wonderful Manic Mondays!

What was the first thing you thought when you looked at yourself in the mirror today?

I saw a hideous zit on my face and felt irritated and tired beyond belief.  I hate Mondays!

Do you have a recurring nightmare? If so, explain.

I used to have a recurring nightmare about crossing an old, rickety bridge and falling into the water.  I am terrified of drowning.  I’ve had recurring dreams about drowning in huge pools of water while my loved ones just stare at me.

List three foods you can’t stand:

Eggs, Fish and Cottage Cheese

Michelle Obama wore a stunning Narciso Rodriguez Spring 2009 dress on Election Night.  At first glance, I was confused by Michelle’s choice.  I remember saying, “What is she wearing?”  It took me a while to warm up to it, but I’ve decided that I adore the dress.  It is a statement dress and she owned it.  She is a strong and fabulous woman and the dress simply complemented that.  Michelle had the dress modified slightly from the original.  The dress worn on the catwalk had more sheer details and Michelle added the lovely cardigan.  I am in the minority on my support of Michelle’s fashion choice, however.

More than 10,000 USA TODAY readers weighed in:

35% said: ”She looks fantastic as always.”

65% said: ”This fashionista had an off day.”

Either way, Michelle is a gorgeous woman and (usually) has excellent taste in fashion.  I look forward to seeing her fashion choices as America’s first African American First Lady!  She should not disappoint.  She is a modern day Jackie-O!

Always chic and fabulous!

Heh heh.  I have heard people say things from “The end of days are upon us!” to “I can’t belong to a country ran by Muslim terrorists so I am taking down my American flag!” since President Elect Obama was elected.  Sorry to tell ya, but he won in a landslide election.  I am quite sure the American people have spoken.  You betcha, indeed.

Yes We Did

After eight long years we have elected a president we can be truly proud of.  A man of honor, a man who is wildly intelligent, a man who has two beautiful daughters who call him Daddy and look up to him.  A man who married a strong, smart and gorgeous woman named Michelle, a woman who can set an example for all women in this world.  This is a man we can trust to keep us safe, a man we can be inspired by.  This will be a tough time for all late night comics and comedy shows.  We have elected a man who can correct pronounce the world “nuclear.”  We have elected a man who not only talks the talk, but really walks the walk.  We have elected our first (and definitely not last) African American president.

We have finally woken up.  Barack Obama painted the country purple.  Not red.  Not blue.  Not Republican and Democrat.  Simply…the United States of America.  We came together for real change.  I can hardly wait for January 20, 2009.  I can hardly wait to call this man President Obama.  I can hardly wait to call Joe Biden our Vice President.  I am not the only one…the entire world rejoiced when the news was broken that we elected Barack Obama as president.  The world breathed a collective sigh of relief.  They knew we had it in us.  They knew all along that we aren’t all obese hicks who can’t speak correctly and treat others with kindness and respect.  They knew all along that we are a nation of Barack Obamas and Joe Bidens and not a nation of Karl Roves and Dick Cheneys.  Barack Obama is my generation’s John F. Kennedy.  A modern day Abraham Lincoln.  Thomas Jefferson would be proud to call this man President and so am I.  Thank you, America.  We did it!  We have begun the long process of picking ourselves back up and giving it another try, because, isn’t that the American way?  Now we can truly begin to hope.
